DIY Korean Tteokbokki (Spicy Rice Cake)

Today, we embark on a culinary adventure that takes us straight to the bustling streets of South Korea, where one iconic dish holds a special place in the hearts of locals and food enthusiasts alike – Tteokbokki.

These cylindrical, chewy delights, known as garaetteok, provide the dish with its distinctive texture. Made from glutinous rice flour, these rice cakes are the perfect canvas for soaking up the bold flavors of the sauce.

DIY Tteokbokki Recipe

  • Prepare the Rice Cakes and Fish Cakes

    • If the rice cakes are hard or refrigerated, soak them in warm water for about 30 minutes to soften.
    • Gently wash the fish cake and cut them into edible slices
  • Boil the Broth:

    • In a pot, bring 4 cups of water (or 750 mL) and add all ingredients.
  • Add the sauce

    • Add the DIY Cooking Special sauce and gently stir cook for 15 minutes.
